‘I should never have been born’: Woman with spina bifida sues doctor

A 20-year-old woman in England demanded a general practitioner – who gave advice to her mother when she was pregnant – because it did not provide information about how to signal the condition she was diagnosed with in the womb. Evie Beombes want millions of compensation from Dr. Philip Mitchell.

According to the Daily Mail, he was born with lipomyelomenocele (LMM) right after his birth. Also known as Spina Bifida, rare conditions do not allow the spinal cord to not develop properly in the womb, which causes permanent disability. The ShowJumping Star claimed the doctor did not advise his mother Caroline Mombes to take folic acid to avoid children who were ‘born in a damaged state’, the Daily Mail reported.

Mother Mother, now 50, pregnant in 2001 and was suggested by Dr. Mitchell to take folic acid but was not told about the importance of prevention of spina bifida. Caroline said the doctor told him if he took a good diet, he did not need to take folic acid.

Doctors, however, have denied any obligation, claiming he gave Caroline Moombes “reasonable advice”.

Lawyer Evie Toombes said that Caroline left pregnant, she would have a normal and healthy baby.

Because of his condition, Evie’s mobility was said to be very limited, and he had to use a wheelchair more and more when he grew older.

He now works at Nottingham University and educates children about invisible diseases. Evie also has its own website.

In 2018, he met Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle when he won the inspiration of Young Rearm Award at a charity event.
