After the death of a Japanese woman, this French nun was the oldest person in the world

Sister Andre, born in South France on February 11, 1904, even before World War I. He lived a happy life in a nursing home in Toulon along the Mediterranean coast.

French nun Sister Andre, at the age of 118, is now the oldest person known in the world, as claimed, after the death of a Japanese woman one year of her senior. Kana Tanaka from Japan, considered the oldest in the world by the International Database on Long Lack (IDL) and Guinness World Records, died at the age of 119 on Monday.

“Sister Andre is indeed the eldest, and so far, because the next older is a 115 -year -old Polish woman,” said Laurent Toussaint, a computer scientist and amateur tracker for IDL and French Demographic Study Institute (INED).

Lucile Randon, better known as Sister Andre, was born in South France on February 11, 1904, even before World War I, which was still one more decade. Sister Andre lived a happy life in a nursing home in Toulon along the Mediterranean coast.

“He is happy, he really likes this attention,” said Home Communication Director David Tavella, added that a short press conference will be held Tuesday morning.

He starts every day with breakfast and then morning mass, even though his eyes can no longer see.

“But that is just another step, because his original goal is to overtake Jeanne Calment,” a French woman who was reportedly 122 years old when she died in 1997, said Tavella.

According to reports, Sister Andre received a new year’s hand greeting from President Emmanuel Macron this year, among many letters and brown boxes sent by sympathizers.

“I am always admired because of my wisdom and intelligence, but now people do not care because I am stubborn,” he joked to the AFP in an interview for the 118th tour around the sun.

“I think to get out of this business but they will not let me,” he said.

Lucile Randon previously worked as a caregiver in Paris – the period he had noted as the happiest time in his life – before taking his religious oath with daughter charity.

Who is Kane Tanaka?

Born on January 2, 1903, Tanaka likes to play Othello board games and has a tendency to chocolate and soft drinks. He was certified by Guinness World Records as the oldest person who lived in 2019 when he was 116 years old. In media events, he said he still enjoyed life and hoped to live up to 120.

Remarkably, most of the centenarian is found in the blue zone of the world, where people live longer than average, such as Okinawa in Japan or on the Italian island of Sardinia.

But France, although not considered a blue zone, still has 30,000 centenarians, according to the Statistics Institute Insee, with around 40 of them 110 or more.
